It all started back in a small town called Long Xuyen in South Vietnam, when, after a few hard years living under communist rule the Du family secretly fled their ancestral home in the middle of one dark night in 1980, leaving behind turmoil and uncertainty. It was about one year later, after spending some time in several internment camps throughout Asia, that the chance came to migrate to Australia. Once settled, the family’s lack of knowledge of the English language and Western culture enabled them to draw on a strength and that strength was cooking. A restaurant specialising in Vietnamese cuisine was opened soon after and fast became an established part of Northbridge for many years.
In 2003, this experience enabled certain members of the family to identify a need in the West End of Fremantle for something new and different than what was already in the area in the way of eateries. CAFE55 was then opened, it is still in family hands and is now owned and run by Lee and Danny. Over the years the cafe has quickly gained a reputation as an establishment that not only has outstanding food and coffee but also offers outstanding service to its many, many repeat customers.
